Getting to you
In-home lessons across Long Beach carry no travel fee inside the city. Instructors work around the school day and the traffic pattern, which in practice means most Long Beach lessons land between 3:30 and 7:30 on weekdays or on Saturday mornings. If you are near the port or on the Signal Hill side, tell us on the form and we will match you with someone who is already working that side of town.
School programs we work alongside
Plenty of our Long Beach students are in LBUSD orchestra or band programs and want private instruction alongside it — usually to prepare a chair audition or to keep up after being assigned an instrument they have never touched. The clearest map of how music is built. Classical, pop and contemporary, with reading and ear training taught side by side.
Drums & Percussion
Groove, independence and reading. We can start on a practice pad or an electronic kit if a full setup isn't realistic at home yet.

Posture and tone first. Suzuki-friendly, school-orchestra aligned, and open to fiddle and film-score repertoire when that's the motivation.

Breath support, pitch, range and stamina — plus the practical nerve it takes to sing in front of an audition panel or a room.

Time, tone and the pocket. The most employable instrument in any band and the fastest route into playing with other people.

Four strings, soft nylon, and a real song on day one. The gentlest first instrument we teach, and a favourite with adult beginners.

Small-group play-alongs for students already taking lessons. Counting someone else in is a different skill from playing alone.

Questions
Questions from Long Beach families.
How young can my child start?
Four is a realistic floor for piano, ukulele and violin, where the instrument can be sized down and the lesson can be play-based. Guitar, drums and bass generally go better from six, and voice from about eight, once the instrument has grown enough to work with safely.
Do you teach adults?
A large share of our students are adults — returning players, complete beginners, and people who want to be able to sit in at a jam. Adult lessons are the same private format, usually at 45 or 60 minutes.
Do we need to own an instrument first?
No. Tell us on the form and your instructor will recommend a specific starter instrument in your budget — and, just as usefully, tell you what not to buy. For drums we can start on a practice pad, and for piano a weighted 61- or 88-key keyboard is fine to begin on.
How much do lessons cost?
Rates depend on the instrument, lesson length and whether the instructor travels to you. We send the full rate sheet with your instructor match, before you commit to anything and without a card on file.
What happens if we have to miss a lesson?
Reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice and the lesson isn't lost. Inside 24 hours it depends on whether your instructor can fill the slot — they'll always try.
Are your instructors background-checked?
Yes. Every instructor is screened and background-checked before they are matched with a student, and in-home lessons are taught with a parent or guardian present in the home for students under 18.
Are online lessons actually as good?
For piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, voice and theory, honestly close. For drums and early violin, in-person has a clear edge because posture and hand position are easier to correct in the room. Your instructor will tell you which they'd recommend for your student.
Do you hold recitals?
Yes — optional seasonal recitals so students have something to point at. Nobody is ever required to perform, and plenty of our students never do.
What if my child doesn't click with the teacher?
Tell us within the first month and we'll re-match you with a different instructor at no charge. A bad fit is a matching problem, not a student problem, and it's ours to fix.
